USWAG Sinaya Program Empowers Third Level Officials in the Region

Baguio City, Philippines – The inaugural “Sinaya: Fostering Integrity-Based Leadership” program, the first cycle of the USWAG Kabisera initiative, concluded successfully on February 5th at Azalea, Baguio City. The three-day workshop, held from February 3rd to 5th, brought together superintendents and assistant superintendents from across the region to enhance their ethical leadership skills and cultivate a culture of integrity within the Philippine education system.

Led by Prof. Maria Nieves R. Confesor, former DOLE Secretary and former Executive Director of the Asian Institute of Management TeaM Energy Center for Bridging Leadership, the program provided participants with a unique opportunity to delve into the legal and ethical dimensions of leadership. Through real-world case studies, best practices, and interactive discussions, participants explored the crucial role of integrity in building trust and accountability within educational institutions.

Sinaya, meaning “enlightenment” or “understanding,” emphasized practical application alongside theoretical knowledge. Reflective exercises guided participants to examine their core values, define their leadership purpose, and develop strategies for leading with authenticity. The program aimed to empower these leaders to inspire their teams and drive positive change within their communities.

The workshop also acknowledged the challenges faced by the Philippine education system, particularly those highlighted by Prof. Nieves which discusses the impact of the country’s unique weather conditions on education. The discussions underscored the importance of ethical and resilient leadership in navigating these challenges and ensuring quality education for all Filipino students.
