DepEd NCR Cascades Continuous Improvement Methodology
In a bid to enhance the quality and efficiency of its programs, the Department of Education National Capital Region (DepEd NCR) through the Field Technical Assistance Division (FTAD) headed by its Chief Education Program Supervisor, Dr. Roger R. Morallos, has initiated the adoption of Continuous Improvement Methodology (CIM) in the Schools Division Offices through the conduct of a seminar-workshop entitled “Cascading Continuous Improvement Methodology on PPAs Development in the Schools Division Office” on March 4-8, 2024 at the 4th floor, Varela Hall, DepEd NCR, Quezon City.
This strategic initiative involved the 3-member CIM Team from the sixteen (16) SDOs, aims to streamline operations, and elevate the standards of education delivery across the region. Further, the said activity aims to train personnel on CI Methodology, help them appreciate the process of CI and its application in program development and implementation, and create an Implementation Plan in applying CI methodology in developing and implementing the Programs, Projects, and Activities or PPAs.
The five-day activity marked a significant departure from traditional planning approaches. It started with an opening program that featured the valuable insights of DepEd NCR’s Assistant Regional Director, Cristito A. Eco, CESO V, who emphasized to strengthen the innovation culture through the crafting of action plan/implementation plan related to the PPA development. He also highlighted the four mandates of the SDOs namely, Capacity Building, Technical Assistance, Quality Assurance, and M and E. Moreover, he reminded the participants that the objective of the SDOs is to produce innovative PPAs involving the four (4) mandates.
One of the key highlights of this initiative was the lecture conducted by CI Coach Arlene A. Soncuya, who extensively discussed the CI methodology and how the principle can be integrated in the development of PPAs. The active participation of the SDO representatives in the PPAs development process led to the realization that stakeholders should be actively involved at the grassroots level. Thus, DepEd NCR aims to ensure that the priorities and challenges faced by individual schools are duly considered during the planning phase.
It was also stressed during the workshop that SDOs play a crucial role in providing valuable insights and feedback based on their firsthand experiences and observations within their respective divisions. The collaborative approach fosters a sense of ownership and accountability among stakeholders, leading to more targeted interventions and resource allocations. Furthermore, the integration of the CIM principles enables DepEd NCR to continuously monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of its programs and initiatives. By encouraging data-driven decision-making processes, the Regional Office can identify areas for improvement and allocate resources more efficiently, thereby maximizing the impact of its interventions.
Through CIM, the office envisions a more agile and responsive education system capable of adapting to evolving needs and challenges. By fostering a culture of continuous improvement, it also aims to enhance the quality of education and, ultimately, improve learning outcomes for learners in the National Capital Region.
The activity was capped with the presentation and critiquing of the CI workshop outputs and the signing on the commitment wall by all participants led by Regional Director Jocelyn DR. Andaya. The Commitment Wall signing affirmed the whole community of DepEd NCR’s commitment to educational excellence and innovation.
